Membership Renewal & Payment
From: The National & Membership Director
To: All Individual Members, Club Members and Business Members
Although I have been the Membership Director for about 2 years and the National Director for about 1 year I am finding that in 2012 that a few clubs and members continue to send their renewal applications and payments to the past Membership Director Patric Layman. Although Patric forwards these to me for processing this is a delay to your renewal and the processing and clearing of your check or money order.
Please send all renewal applications to:

Another thing that I am finding is that some members and clubs have sent in payment at the old dues rate. Please be reminded that as of January 1, 2012 the SSMA found it necessary to increase the membership dues of its individual members, club members and business members. This dues increase was effective for all members whose membership expired on or after January 1, 2012. This increase was necessary to offset the cost of printing the Journal, postage and to keep our club registered as a not-for-profit, tax- exempt status with the Federal Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c) (7) and also to keep us incorporated in The State of Delaware.
Please remember that all checks and or money orders should be made payable to the SSMA do not send cash.

The Towline by Bob Gesking reprinted from Fall 2003 Journal
|
. .. |
Does one of your models have a towline for rescuing disabled model boats? If you have a model tugboat, you should have a rescue towline for it. I have several tugs, and almost everyone has its own towline. Did you know that one of the SSMA events is the “Salvage” event, where you get to “rescue” a disabled or derelict boat? How are you going to practice if you don’t have a towline? The “salvage” event rules state that: “A tug, or other vessel suitably fitted, approaches a “derelict”, snags it, and tows it back to port. The derelict may be snagged by a line towed astern of the (rescue) vessel while it circles the derelict. The drag (tow) line will carry a small float at two thirds and at the end of its length. Regatta organizers will supply lines of 10, 15, and 20 feet in length for the contestants to choose from.”

Are ISM band 2.4GHZ radios for you?

When thinking about breakthroughs in Radio Control technology, quite a few things come to mind. From the first electronic speed control, dual throttle control, first computerized radio, and first synthesized radio, there have been a number of milestones. ISM band, or 2.4GHz Spread Spectrum Technology can now be added to the major milestone list.
